The Foundation of our Program

  • If there was one foundation female that we leaned on heavily in creating Cooper Akaushi breeding pieces it’s Haruko.

The breeding herd has always been managed to be a NUCLEUS population within the Kumomoto Red lineages of Japanese Brown cattle. The breeding mindset is to achieve optimal levels of phenotype rather than selecting for merely maximizing growth traits (and consequently all of their correlated traits). These cattle look different and perform differently than most by design. Our breeding program was developed on over a decade of Akaushi experience and real practical science rather than fiction and marketing pitches.

Haruko’s influence in our herd was intentional and cannot be understated. She has been one of Aaron’s favorites to build around and he estimates this herd has the strongest Haruko influence of any in the world. She is the Akaushi Queen of early marbling and mothering ability.

Unmatched Maternal Qualities

For years now we have been building and stacking females with high maternal traits earlier in life with bulls such as Escondido 7000E, a double-bred Haruko sire. Higher maternal traits for fetus/young calves typically result in greater carcass values at harvest. Cooper maternal genetics set the standard for cow power and temperament in the luxury beef industry. We invite you to come them in person.
